CUSTOM SEIZES TWO HELICOPTERS AT LAGOS AIRPORT- HAND OVER TO AIR FORCE TO FIGHT INSURGENCY


















Almost three months since attempted smuggling of two civil model Bell Helicopters into the country by  yet identified person. this has led to forfeiture of the helicopters to the Nigerian Air force,
the Customs said on Friday.
     The helicopters were subsequently handed over to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday 27th Jan. to aid its fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast. The Two seized contraband Helicopters were flown in as a consignment with Airway Bill Number 17232444403 through the Lagos Murtala Mujammed Airport 1 on November 7,2016. The unknown importer reportedly failed to produce end user certificate from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) in contravention of Section 36 (2) of the Customs and Excise Management Act.
     The helicopters with serial numbers 36608 and 36606 is said to worth  N9, 757,135,240.86k including the import duty value fee for the two helicopters and accessories. Additional consigned 23 packages weighing 11.475kg was also in the consignments.
